Surrounding San Diego’s South Bay are four golf courses, lots of parks and plenty of open space, and the near-perfect Mediterranean climate is a draw in itself. For boaters, San Diego’s bay is a must-stop. Its calm waters welcome you in from the open seas. The wind and current in the bay are appropriate for small sailboats and cruisers who prefer a relaxed pace. Many people moor their boats at the Chula Vista Marina while getting ready to go cruising. About 70 percent of guest dockers take off from there and return after their rendezvous. About 25 percent of all tenants will come and go from Chula Vista Marina to visit other marinas farther north along the coast, as well as destinations such as the East Coast, Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii. Guests like the fact that they can come over on the weekend to dock and dine and enjoy great live music at the local restaurants and bars in the marina: South Bay Fish & Grill and the Galley at the Marina. They both offer food and drink specials along with live music. State-of-the-art docks and green areas surrounding the property are among other features that draw boaters to the marina. The parking lot was refurbished in March 2009, and a public fishing pier is right next door for guests to enjoy. Plus, boaters can stock up on provisions from 3 to 6 p.m. every Thursday at the farmers market on Third Avenue in downtown Chula Vista, about a mile from the marina. Also to add the numerous amenities, the resort organizes all sorts of activities, almost daily. A free nautical workshop is held in our Marine room, once a month. Morning walks are scheduled, and 8 a.m. is aqua aerobics time in the pool. There are free arts and crafts classes and monthly gatherings with live music and themes such as cowboys’ night, square-dancing night, and all-you-can-eat steak for $10.00, among others. On Saturday mornings, orange juice and doughnuts are 75 cents. Tenants also look forward to the annual summer barbecue. Off-season, things slow down a bit, but there’s still plenty to do. There’s an open house each year during the Christmas season, and boaters who are cruising south for the winter often make an appearance. Stop in and say hello, you may find that you will want to stay.
